Flood warning issued for Des Plaines River at Riverside

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Des Plaines River at Riverside, predicting that the river will reach flood stage by Friday afternoon due to heavy rains sweeping through northern Illinois.

At 2:45 p.m., the Des Plaines River at Riverside had risen to 3.93 feet. It's is expected to crest at 7.4 feet, which is slight more than flood stage. Any flooding should be limited to park and forest preserve areas near the river, though heavy rains could affect First Avenue between Forest and Ogden avenues.

More rain is expected this afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
