Despite a tornado warning and flash floods, the Landmark coverage area came away from Monday's heavy rains relatively unscathed. While water started ponding in some streets in Brookfield, North Riverside and Riverside, the flooding didn't amount to much, according to officials in all three towns.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Des Plaines River at Riverside, predicting that the river will reach flood stage by Friday afternoon due to heavy rains sweeping through northern Illinois.

If there's one thing newspapers don't like, it's being in the news. But that's where a newspaper serving Brookfield, along with about a dozen other southwest suburbs, found itself on Thursday, as the subject of an investigation by the Better Government Association. An article published March 19 on the BGA website alleged that more than a dozen editorials published by the Desplaines Valley News were plagiarized from other news organizations, from the Washington Post to the Daily Beast.

On Tuesday, March 10 voters will have a chance to see and hear some or all of the candidates sound off on issues facing the school district during a candidate forum moderated by the LaGrange Area League of Women Voters. The forum will run from 7 to 8 p.m. in the gym at George Washington Middle School, 4100 Joliet Ave. in Lyons. Attendees are asked to enter the school through Door 19.

The day after the Feb. 1 blizzard, many schools decided to close their doors. But few districts, including Riverside-Brookfield High School District 208 opened their doors on Feb. 2. Attendance was admittedly lower, but we didn't know exactly how many students and teachers stayed home from RBHS that day until we filed a FOIA for the information. here's what we found.
