In a deal with Cook County prosecutors, an Oak Lawn man charged last spring with robbing a 19-year-old Berwyn man in the driveway of a Riverside home, has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and has been sentenced to serve two years in state prison.

A 29-year-old Chicago woman robbed of $320 in cash in the east parking lot of the North Riverside Park Mall, 7501 Cermak Road, at about 3:55 p.m. on Jan. 12 may have been targeted by the offenders, according to police.

A burglary crew reportedly stole three cars from a service garage at Zeigler Ford, 2100 Harlem Ave. in North Riverside, at about 8:10 p.m. on Jan. 5, and then used one of the vehicles to ram open a gate along the north fence line of the lot, allowing the other vehicles to flee the scene.

Riverside police have arrested a man they say ran a drug operation out of a downtown apartment until late last year, when police raided the residence and recovered drugs, cash, paraphernalia and three large pit bulls.

A woman's body, recovered from Salt Creek in Lyons on the afternoon of Jan. 2, was not the Brookfield woman who has been missing since late September, Brookfield Police Chief Edward Petrak has confirmed.

A Riverside firefighter was taken to Loyola University Medical Center as a precaution Sunday night after he fell through a floor while fighting a fire inside an East Burlington Street home, tumbling about eight feet into the basement, on the night of Dec. 29.

The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad crossing at Maple Avenue in Brookfield remains closed to traffic two hours after an uncoupled freight car rolled through the intersection and derailed just east of the crossing on Dec. 27 at about 11:20 a.m.

A resident of the 2900 block of Prairie Avenue who may have mistakenly left the overhead door or service door to their garage open on the afternoon of Dec. 16 discovered that both the garage and a vehicle parked inside had been burglarized.
