The nearly weeklong quarantine for members of the boys cross-country team at Riverside-Brookfield High School has ended as the member of the team who reported symptoms tested negative for the presence of the novel coronavirus.

Members of the Riverside-Brookfield High School boys cross-country team are currently under quarantine after a team member reported having two or more symptoms of COVID-19. The quarantine began Aug. 18.

For months, the IHSA has attempted to get high school athletes back out on the field. After retreating from its initial Phase 4 Return to Play guidelines, the association has decided to attempt a four-season format that would push back the start date for sports considered to be at "higher risk."

After working with the Illinois Department of Health, the IHSA announced on July 3 that it's been approved to move to Stage 2, paving the way for programs to hold sport-specific workouts.

In a conversation last week with RBHS' assistant principal of athletics, Brendan Curtin, he said that the school has approved guidelines similar to what was outlined by the IHSA.
