When I found out that the first quarter of my junior year was going to be fully remote, I didn't quite know what to expect. I certainly wasn't excited to be going back to school when Riverside-Brookfield High School was planning to follow a hybrid learning model, but hearing that we would be transitioning to a fully remote plan only made me more uncertain about the upcoming year.

In the wake of last week's Riverside-Brookfield High School Board of Education meeting, where officials rolled out their plan for students to return for part-time, in-person learning beginning with the second quarter, there were many people who questioned the board's data justifying the decision and complained that the plan lacked specificity.

Rarely do we take the opportunity to write an open letter to our constituents. However, with the coming election cycle we are moved to acquaint you with a candidate with whom we have had the benefit of an extraordinarily positive professional relationship. That candidate is Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak.
I can't support a hybrid plan on any level. We can't send our kids to school and risk their lives, our own and others. Can you imagine the rioting in the streets if us parents were forced to send our children to school and then lose them or lose family members due to COVID-9?

Shortly before classes were scheduled to begin in person in Riverside School District 96, two representatives from the teachers' union addressed the school board's decision to conduct in-person learning.

Who would have thought back on Sept. 12, 1926, when St. Mary Parish in Riverside was established that on Sept. 13, 2020 I would be a member of the parish, watching Mass at home on TV from Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.
