Susan M. Butler, 59, of St. Joseph, Michigan and formerly of Brookfield, died on May 4, 2019. 

Born on Dec. 18, 1959, she was a dedicated, passionate and respected registered nurse at Lakeland Hospital for 15 years. 

Ms. Butler was free-spirited and always ready for an adventure. She was a nature enthusiast who enjoyed hiking. Some of her favorite places included the Smoky Mountains, Sarett Nature Center, and the sand dunes of Silver Lake and Lake Michigan. She participated in water sports, bird watching, and gardening. 

She was the mother of Melissa (Nate) McFeters and Mary Jennings; the grandmother of Kaitlyn, Lily, Owen and Jace; the daughter of Robert (friend Maureen Smetana) Butler and the late Joan Butler (nee Pechous); the sister of Diane Butler, William (the late Susan) Butler, Edward Butler and the late Robert (Nancy) Butler; and the aunt of many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation is on Tuesday, May 21 from 4 p.m. to time of service at 8 p.m. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St. in Brookfield, followed by private interment.
