Riverside Village President Ben Sells said last week that the village board would not vote on whether to construct a floodwall along the Des Plaines River until the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) performs an analysis to see whether the proposed floodwall would exempt homeowners near the river from having to buy flood insurance.

Komarek School officials will begin their public rollout of options for renovating the campus with a series of community focus group meetings over the next two weeks. The meetings are designed to give the school board and administration feedback that will lead to a final design concept, which will be approved next month.

A 37-year-old Berwyn man who was ultimately charged with drunken driving by Berwyn police after he crashed into a building in the 3200 block of Harlem Avenue, also received a raft of traffic tickets from police in Riverside, where surveillance cameras captured video of him driving over a planter and along sidewalks, damaging both public and private property in the village's downtown on Nov. 17 at about 1:55 a.m.

Brookfield police are investigating a report that a man wearing a ski mask and gloves pulled a knife on a 12-year-old boy who was walking in the 3500 block of Oak Avenue on Nov. 21 at about 5:10 p.m.

Three months after receiving three proposals for paramedic services, North Riverside trustees appear ready to extend the village's contract with Paramedic Services of Illinois (PSI) for another five years, even though the company's proposal was the more expensive option.

Riverside police say a 13-year-old boy has been charged with aggravated assault and felony unlawful use of a weapon on school property and a 16-year-old boy has been charged with misdemeanor battery after a fight involving a knife in a hallway at Riverside-Brookfield High School on Nov. 19.

It looks as if the Brookfield Special Events Committee, launched in the early 1990s to organize, staff and manage the annual summer event Brookfest at Ehlert Park, will be phased out as early as next week at the Nov. 25 meeting of the village board.
