The second and third ranked students in the Riverside-Brookfield High Class of 2020 have the same last name. That's because Claire Kawiecki, who ranked second in the graduating class, and Danny Kawiecki, who ranked third, are twins.

Local schools are planning to open in August, but exactly what school will look like has yet to be determined. Last week, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education announced that schools should open as scheduled and issued guidelines about what steps schools should take to serve students and protect them and staff from the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Lincoln Elementary School in Brookfield will have a new assistant principal this fall after the Lyons-Brookfield School District 103 Board of Education 4 to 3 to hire Beatriz Lappay on May 26.

When Martha Ryan-Toye was hired in 2016 to be the superintendent of Riverside Elementary School District 96, the Board of Education was looking for someone to bring some stability and calm, as well as educational leadership, to the district. On June 17 they rewarded Ryan-Toye with a new five-year contract, the longest contract a school board can legally enter into with a superintendent in Illinois.
