Art Jones won't have a free ride in the Republican primary for the 3rd Congressional District this time. Unlike two years ago when Jones, who has espoused neo-Nazi views, had no competitors in the Republican primary and thus became the Republican nominee by default, Jones will face two opponents on the March 17 Republican primary ballot. Will County board member Mike Fricilone and Oak Lawn resident Catherine O'Shea have also filed nominating petitions to run in the primary.

The George Washington Middle School student who made a social media post about bringing guns to school has been expelled. At a special meeting on Nov. 19 the Lyons School District 103 Board of Education voted 6-1 to expel the student who is, according to a GWMS parent who asked not to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the case, an eighth-grade boy from Stickney.

That's the status of talks between Riverside Elementary School District 96 and the Hollywood Citizens Association (HCA) about the HCA's offer to lease more than 10,000 square feet of land west and north of the Hollywood House to D96 for the token rent of one dollar a year.

The rematch between Congressman Dan Lipinski and Marie Newman in the upcoming Democratic primary is more complicated this time around. In 2018, Newman nearly beat Lipinski in a head-to-head contest, ultimately losing by a little more than 2,000 votes after a hard-fought campaign marked by sharp ideological differences and harsh attacks.

For the second consecutive year, delegates to the annual convention of the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) voted down a resolution that would have authorized the group to lobby the Illinois General Assembly to pass a bill that would allow school districts to allow properly trained teachers and other staff members to carry guns in school.
