There is not much to investigate. The rider of the bike blew the stop sign and got hit by the driver. That intersection is dangerous and should be a 4-way stop instead of a 2-way stop. It is truly a saddening event. I unfortunately was there right after it happened. I feel so bad for the family of the man on the bike and most definitely feel bad for the driver.

This is a generous offer, and one that would work for District 96. It shows, once again, that the neighborhood, and its residents, surrounding both Hollywood and RBHS is supportive of the schools' needs and deserving of similar respect from the school districts.

At every meeting since June parents and community members have been asking about a business manager. We have reminded the board president and the superintendent again and again that the deadline was Sept 30th. They CHOOSE to ignore us, they ALLOWED this to happen. The board president is incompetent and is making it very clear he does not want staff, parents , community members or even other school board members to question what he is doing and that should scare the hell out of everyone - people who are doing what is right do not try to hide what they are doing. A month ago they tried to sneak a 1.6 million transfer from the transportation budget into the general fund without a vote - without a discussion until they were caught and called out for it publicly. If anything this should help wake up community members to realize how important it is to prioritize going to a meeting and speaking out, its only even once a month now because twice a month was too much work for our new board...

I too have questioned the timeline of the authorization and the dedication, but that is the information we have from Town Board minutes, and newspaper accounts of the day. It appears the dedication came well before the building was completed. It was, after all, a cornerstone ceremony, so it may have been practice to dedicate a building during the construction period once you got past the cornerstone. Since our November 2nd event is a re-dedication of the building, we are trying to coincide historically with the original dedication. There was a community party celebrating the new town hall on August 22, 1895, and we our party will allow for warming up right after the re-dedication. Accounts compiled by the Riverside Historical Commission in 2005 say that the building was not officially opened for business until a few months after the August 1895 party. More than a year of construction sounds more likely.

I remember, as a child growing up in Riverside, going to the Town Hall on Saturday mornings to see movies in the upstairs meeting room. I believe it was usually a Western Movie. Memories.
