Jazz at Riv-Inia
Riverside Parks and Recreation invites the community to come out for an evening of fun and jazz during A Night at Riv-Inia on Friday, Aug. 9 in Guthrie Park, at Bloomingbank and Riverside roads, just south of the tracks, in downtown Riverside.
The event features an outdoor concert by the jazz band Martini Lunch. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from The Chew. The park opens for the event at 6:30 p.m. Music will be from 7 to 9 p.m.
League of Women Voters talk Supreme Court
The League of Women Voters of the LaGrange Area will host a presentation on Supreme Court Decisions on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the LaGrange Park Public Library, 555 N. LaGrange Road.
The event will include a brief discussion of some of the high-profile cases of the last term, ending in June 2018. The discussion will be followed by questions from the audience.

Join Chris "Botanizer" Benda for a walk among the wildflowers and the Riverside Arboretum at "Walk and Talk with the Illinois Botanist" at the Riverside Public Library, 1 Burling Road, on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
At 1 p.m. meet up outside the library and take a tour where Benda will point out native plants in Riverside, which can be grown in your own garden. Afterward, join him for a lecture in the library. Co-sponsored by the Frederick Law Olmsted Society.
The North Riverside Park Mall, 7501 Cermak Road invites kids of all ages to get up close with police and fire vehicles, cranes and even a helicopter at Touch-A-Truck in the parking lot of the mall on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to exploring the vehicles, there will be a DJ, face painting, balloon artists, giveaways and special appearances by the "Toy Story" characters. There will also be an onsite blood drive in conjunction with the event.
Admission is free but visitors are asked to bring non-perishable food items for CBS Food Pantry.
Hitchcock Movie Matinee
Celebrate Alfred Hitchcock's birth month with the annual Hitchcock Movie Matinee on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 1 p.m. at Brookfield Public Library, 3609 Grand Blvd.
This year's film is "The Man Who Knew Too Much" from 1956, about a man mistaken for a spy and who must stop an assassination plot, starring James Stewart and Doris Day.
