Police in Riverside and North Riverside will increase traffic enforcement efforts, particularly cracking down on impaired drivers and those not wearing seatbelts, during a Fourth of July enforcement campaign that will run through July 8.
The additional patrols are being funded via grants from the Federal Highway Administration for the Illinois Department of Transportation's Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket programs.
"We're asking all of our residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day safely," said North Riverside Deputy Police Chief Christian Ehrenberg in a press release. "It's simple: If you're driving, don't drink or use drugs. Our officers will be out in force to keep impaired drivers off the road."
More than 160 police agencies statewide, including Riverside and North Riverside, are participating in the grant-funded enforcement crackdown around the Fourth of July holidays.
